SoulDisco - Specialist Disco DJ

These days if you mention "disco" as a musical genre, people of a certain age will think back with fond memories to the time of Grease and Saturday Night Fever, disco balls and multi-coloured dancefloors, flares and afros, medallions, open-necked shirts and white suits. However the music had its roots in the African American, Gay and Psychedelic nightclubs of New York and Philadelphia. Much of the music was promoted as anti-rock by the gay and latino communities, eventually making its way into the mainstream in the mid-1970s.

It's no surprise therefore that the genre's main musical influences were funk, Latin and soul, most often employing soaring vocals over a steady beat with a lush background sound provided by strings, horns, electric pianos and guitars. Electronic synthesizers later added to the richness of the sound. Sadly, by the end of the 70s, the popularity of disco began to wane in the States, although in the UK some of the more established artists and bands continued to do well into the mid-80s.

SoulDisco's Martin Joyce is a specialist Disco DJ, offering a wonderful range of music from the era - not just the same old handful of songs you'll hear at any wedding disco, but a truly deep catalogue of forgotten favourites which will delight your guests!
