Our Top 10 Requested Funk Artists

James Brown

James Brown

"The Godfather of Soul", James Brown is recognised as a major figure in 20th century popular music. A turbulent private life didn't prevent James from producing notable songs Papa's Got A Brand New Bag, I Got You (I Feel Good) and Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine.

Sly & The Family Stone

Sly & The Family Stone

From 1966 to 1983 this band was pivotal in the development of funk and soul music, producing hits such as Dance To The Music, Everyday People, Family Affair and Runnin' Away. The band enjoyed a much longer career in the States.

Parliament

Parliament

Originally a barber-shop doo-wop vocal group, Parliament were rarely out of the US R&B chart throughout the whole of the 1970s but didn't achieve commercial success in the UK. However, that doesn't stop us playing tracks such as Flash Light and Aqua Boogie!

Cameo

Cameo

Originally a 23-piece formed in 1974, Cameo started with a deep, funky sound which played to the dancefloor. However, it wasn't until 1984s She's Strange that the band caught the attention of the UK, culminating in the smash hit Word Up! in 1986.

War
